Southern Plains Behavioral Health Services is a community non-profit agency designed to meet the behavioral health needs of Tripp, Todd, Mellette and Gregory counties.

SPBHS services consists of two major components:  adult and children’s services.  These departments are coordinated to provide quality care to those individuals experiencing both short term and long term difficulties in adjusting to life situations.

ADULT SERVICES

The CARE (Comprehensive Assistance with Recovery and Empowerment) Team Services are intended to provide treatment, recovery, and support services to severely mentally ill adults, aged 18 or older, whose primary disability is mental or emotional and for whom 24-hour supervised care is inappropriate.  The primary purpose of the CARE Team Services component is to increase the person’s ability to function outside of an institution and in a community living setting.

CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENT SERVICES

2014-06-27 15.56.10Southern Plains Children’s counseling services assist families with the sensitive issues of child and adolescent behavior.  This program provides mental health services to children with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED). Therapists help promote change and understanding with those struggling with trauma, conduct disorders, anger, discipline, attention deficit disorders, educational challenges, depression and other social and emotional life needs.

  • Home, school and community-based counseling
  • Case management
  • Play therapy
  • Medication management and services
  • Systems of Care/Wraparound services
  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

 OUTPATIENT SERVICES

Outpatient services are offered to both adults and children living in the service area that may be currently experiencing problems. Appointments may be self-initiated or made by a referring agency that is involved with an individual or family. The staff consists of the disciplines of psychiatry and social work. Services are not limited to the office setting and can be offered in the most therapeutic environment. A part of the children’s services involves case management in the form of linking to agencies and/or resources that will benefit the child/family.
